Defense Secretary Leon Panetta unveiled what his department’s priorities and choices will be as
they are forced to reduce their overall budget by $487 billion over the next 10 years. The DOD
is expected to request $525 billion as a baseline budget for FY 2013, with an additional $88.4
billion for overseas contingencies, which is $6 billion and $27 billion less, respectively, than FY
2012. To learn more about the Pentagon’s announcement and to read the VFW’s reaction, click

The Chairman of the House Committee on Veterans’ Affairs, issued a statement regarding the
recent discovery of numerous mismarked graves and incorrectly interred remains throughout the
National Cemetery Administration system. He called for a full accounting of all veterans’ graves
in veterans’ cemeteries across the nation, as well as a detailed report on VA’s findings as each
cemetery review is completed. VA must demonstrate absolute transparency to me, our veterans,
and all Americans, throughout the process. Our veterans deserve better.
